All photos entered will be evaluated by a panel of judges representing CSIS members as well as Nick Souza, professional photographer. Judges will select the photos that strike them most for whatever reason. One of the judges will be externally selected to audit the competition.
The photo must unconditionally be taken by you and not originating from another source. It is not allowed to participate in the competition with digitally manipulated images or drawings. The contest is about photography, not about expertise with graphical applications. This does not apply to photographic techniques contained within a camera's abilities (i.e. a manual shutter release used at night to capture fireworks or moving traffic).
All entries applying by the rules are encouraged and most welcome.
Information that must be submitted when signing up to the contest is; the photographer's name and occupation, the photographer's address (or where you would like the prize sent, should you win), a title for the shot and a maximum of 75 words on the story on the photo; where and how. Why did the image capture your interest?
You must be 18 years of age or older to participate in the contest.
There is a limit of two submitted photos per person. Photos thought to be outside of the above criteria may be removed from consideration without the entrant being notified.
When submitting to the contest, you are allowing CSIS to use the photo internally in printed and electronic material. Furthermore CSIS is allowed to use the submitted photos for external use associated with CSIS and also the competition.
The photos submitted becomes the property of the Container Shipping Information Service (CSIS) and that CSIS may use and display them for any defined, reasonable and lawful purposes thereafter, whether a photo is a winning photo or not. Participants have no right to compensation or royalties of any kind - beyond the right to participate in the contest. Photos tendered are subject to CSIS exclusive right to use, without obligation to notify and/or explain reasons.
The overall best entry will be picked by a panel of judges, including US based professional photographer Nick Souza, and awarded the winning prize of a top-of-the-range Niko D60 SLR digital camera worth approximately 700USD. The two runners-up will each receive a Canon Powershot S5 digital camera worth 350USD.
